How to Use the Goal Timeline
Start at the bottom of the document in the “Project Details” table. There are three different sections in this table that will affect the graph above.
The first thing you will enter is the date that each task will be completed. Take the time to really think about how long a task might take and enter a realistic date for its completion.
Now, you can enter the names of each “milestone” or task that will help you reach your goal. These milestones can really be anything from planning to organizing volunteers. The smallest thing that pushes your momentum forward is something worth entering here.
Also, be sure to list the names of your milestones something easy to remember. For example, if you want to round up some volunteers for a charity, you can name your task “enlist volunteers”. Keeping your names simple will make the whole process a lot more efficient.
The final column allows you to enter the “Position” of the task in question. There might be tasks that you have to complete on the same day. This would make other templates look very confusing and jumbled.
However, the Goal Timeline lets you space your tasks that fall on the same date to different heights on the graph. If you look at the example given, there are milestone very close together but they are separated by their height, making the graph much easier to read.
