How to Use the free Roman Numerals Chart

Alright, begin by scrolling to the bottom of this template and looking at the legend that is provided below. Each color of the template represents something on this sheet. For example, the colors highlighted in the light purple color are “additions” which means they only add to basic characters.

For example, let’s say you want to write 7 in Roman numerals. You would simply enter 5 (V) and to the right of that, you would add two 1’s (VII). When you put a number to the left of the basic character, you are in fact subtracting. For instance (IV) is 4 because the 1 is to the left of the 5.

The main table of the document shows you what every number translates to.

If you go to the far right of the template at the bottom of the page, you will also find a basic calculator that will take whatever number you enter and produce the Roman equivalents. That’s really all there is to it.
